Most Septembers, the eleventh comes and goes like any other day, marked by a few moments of silence in the morning.

Some years, the anniversary sneaks up on me.

This fifteenth anniversary is one of those. On Friday, I found myself reduced to tears listening to this StoryCorps interview.

I spent the first anniversary vacationing in Rhode Island, not wanting to be home or anywhere near New York or DC.

A few summers later, I found myself in Shanksville at the crash site of Flight 93.
