Finance and Keywords? You Bet.

That’s right, even in Finance, where it’s stereotyped as all numbers, keywords are increasingly relevant and important. What makes them so important one might ask? Well, today’s job market is increasingly competitive as our labor force both grows and ages; that means before one can even worry about the numbers you need to get the job first. The importance of knowing keywords is what might just put you ahead of the aforementioned competition and landing that job. If that doesn’t stand out as important then I’m lost to as what would be.

In my exploration of financial positions I found quite a lot of positions looking for a strong mix of attributes as well as abilities. Knowing how to use Microsoft Office was a prominent skill to have, but that was minuscule compared to the “soft skills” and goals of the prospects. It was very surprising to see the terms “fast-paced” and “self-motivated” tossed around in both the descriptions of positions, as well as in the applicable abilities.

Technical skills and experience appear at the start of many applications, and they may be what gets your application past an employment screening. However, if there’s any main focus to draw from my research of these positions it would be that having a well-rounded work ethic and desire to make an impact is valued near the very top of many organizations.
