The Evil Kermit meme has been remixed and used extensively to demonstrate the decision making process that goes through our minds. One on side of the shoulders, the angel is there vouching for “what we should do” and on the other side the devil Is there advocating for “giving in to the temptation”.

According to Know Your Meme and The Guardian, the meme is from:

“the film Muppets Most Wanted (2014), where Kermit the Frog meets his evil twin, Constantine, dress in a black cloak. Constantine plays the role of a criminal mastermind who urges Kermit to behave badly.”

The original meme was first created by Twitter user anya. On November 6, 2016 she tweeted a picture using the Evil Kermit meme about seeing a fluffy dog and wanting to see it. Within 10 days, the tweet gained over 31,800 likes and 22,500 retweets.

Since then, the Evil Kermit meme has been remixed and has been gaining popularity with memes in relation to fashion, procrastination, and the hardest decision of where to eat and if you should continue eating even after you’re full. Websites such as Buzzfeed, Cosmopolitan, and CollegeHumor have compiled a gallery of the funniest, evil and most relatable evil Kermit memes.

Kermit the Frog has been so successful as a meme because of its relatedness to childhood memories and appearances on shows such as The Muppet’s show and Disney’s Sesame Street. There have even been multiple variations of Kermit the Frog. For example, the creation of “but that’s none of my business — sips tea” meme, is a part of the Kermit the Frog series memes.

The “but that’s none of my business” meme is actually part of everyone’s business and has been around since 2014. This meme is more sarcastic than dark compared to the Evil Kermit meme. The point of this meme is for all those situations where you observe something unrealistic or ridiculous and then laugh or act like it doesn’t bother you. With either Evil Kermit meme or the “but that’s none of my business” meme, the idea is same. Memes allow us to sit back and laugh at reality (or ourselves) without being too harsh or rude.
