A Vicious Circle

I contend that each of us must make good choices in life. It’s our moral obligation. The better our choices, the better off each of us will; thus; the better off the world will be.

The problem is, that, many of us in the Western world have been told, since childhood, not to daydream. We have been told that we must use reason to solve problems. However, imagination and intuition are connected.

Each of us has more than five senses. Whether we call it divine guidance, intuition, instinct, or, gut-feeling, it is one of the human senses. We need to heed it.

By encouraging children to use their imagination, we prepare them to become good problem-solvers. By purchasing ready-made TV action figures, and other realistic toys, for them, we’re raising a generation of zombies.

The 20th century philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre said that we are the choices we make. Based upon the number of divorces and out-of-wedlock births in the US, it’s obvious that many Americans are not making good choices. These bad choices lead to child poverty, and, a future workforce that is largely poorly educated and unskilled. As a result, the entire society suffers.

Alternately, if the nation’s adult population is relatively well-educated, the entire society benefits. Not only is the population more productive - it can make better political choices. A smaller portion of the citizenry feels disenfranchised.

It’s time Americans, by-and-large, began making better life choices.
