Hello, my name is Sophia Listenberger and I am from Portsmouth, Rhode Island. I am a Sophomore Communications major and hope to add a double minor is Art and Design. I love to draw, dance, and create in any way shape or form.

I would like to pursue a career in design and follow in the footsteps of both of my parents who are also designers. I am a Communications major because I recognize the importance of acquiring skills in this field. I also believe that a background in Communications will help me to become a more well-rounded designer.

I see the media as a filter through which a multitude of information is processed and then delivered to the public. The media has become an integral part of our daily lives. Due to the current internet centered culture, the media is always accessible. Whether we catch the morning news or check our phones a couple times a day, the media is constantly around us. We are perpetually surrounded by and immersed in the media.

This allows for the media to be an extremely powerful force in today’s society. The media’s representation of truth can heavily influence the way the general public forms opinions of certain information.

Due to the fact that the media is so prevalent in society today, it is vital that the information presented by the media is truthful and informative. When this is the case, the media is quite helpful in delivering information to the public. However, the media also can be incredibly dangerous in our society because it can easily persuade the viewers to believe false information.

Overall, the role of the media in society is one of great importance and power. Therefore, the media is something which must be treated with the upmost care. The media has the ability to be extremely beneficial, but also has the power to be extremely destructive.
