Special Announcement: Hello Neighbor is proud to announce the launch of the Hello Neighbor Network, a national collaboration of refugee organizations from around the country.

Today, we are excited to announce the launch of the inaugural Leadership Cohort for the Hello Neighbor Network!

Joining this first ever cohort are eight like-minded organizations from across the country who are doing exemplary work in helping refugees in their cities.

The first cohort includes the following organizations across the country: Dwell Mobile (Mobile), Heartfelt Tidbits (Cincinnati), Hearts and Homes for Refugees (Westchester County, NY), Homes Not Borders (District of Columbia), International Neighbors (Charlottesville), Miry’s List (Los Angeles), Refugee Assistance Alliance (Miami) and Soft Landing Missoula (Missoula).

As a note, these are all women-led organizations making an incredible impact…

Hello Neighbor is excited to announce the launch of a new program to support new moms and their children.

Our Story:

Two years ago, we started because one mom saw a need in her community to support other moms who were refugees. Since then, we’ve matched 95 families from 13 different countries with caring and supportive Pittsburgh neighbors. Together they’ve participated in over 4,000 mentoring hours, over 500 individual outings and activities and together we’ve explored some of Pittsburgh’s best landmarks helping the refugee families feel more comfortable and confident in their new lives.

Our peer-based and family-oriented mentoring program…

Over the past year we have seen asylum seekers at our Southern border tear gassed. Families, including small children and mothers, who are fleeing gang violence are being turned away from their port of entry. Families are being separated. Refugees are being admitted to our country at an all-time low and anti-immigrant sentiment and racism is evident in our politics, in the media and in our communities.

And yet…

This is not the America we know. We know that asylum seekers, immigrants and refugees are not pawns to political partisanship. Now, more than ever, refugee and immigrant advocates are standing…

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday for receiving, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to give back. Tomorrow, millions of people come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.

Hello Neighbor was founded in 2017 to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new lives. Since then we have matched 72 refugee families (over 400 moms, dads and kids) with local Pittsburghers. We’ve also created a national movement to support new neighbors in communities across the country.

In the days since the domestic terrorism attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue here in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill community, we have all been shaken. We have cried so many tears. We have felt darkness all around us.

And yet, for every piece of darkness, there has been one of light.

The elected officials of Pittsburgh who have been at every funeral offering comfort to those in mourning. The religious leaders who have spoken of love, compassion and togetherness at vigils. The Steelers sending 3 buses to a funeral, the Penguins honoring the police officers shot, those going to blood…

We’re proud to announce a new partnership between Hello Neighbor and PlaceInvaders! We’re both female founded organizations and we’ve teamed up — for good! — to support recently resettled refugee families in their new local communities through a series of popup dinners in NYC and LA this fall!

Hello Neighbor: Improving the lives of refugees and immigrants by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new lives.

Hello Neighbor’s pilot program is currently underway through September. This is an exciting opportunity to get in on the ground level of a new organization supporting refugees and immigrants in Pittsburgh. After graduation for this class in October, we’ll begin planning for the next class with applications going live in late fall. We also have community programming, events and digital execution that will need ongoing assistance.
