Oily Skin: How to Take Care of Your Skin

This article features how to daily cleanse and what products to use for oily type of skin.

Suffering from oily skin?

Today’s market offers various beauty products, so many that you might find yourself confused on which one to pick. Women with this type of skin has a different need compared to those whose skin are normal, dry or combination. Somehow during your shopping trips, you may find yourself asking the following questions.

Above is the YouTuber who makes some of the better skincare videos on YouTube.

How do I know if I have an oily facial skin type?

Early in the morning, you have earnestly applied loose or compact powder to prepare for today’s work. Only after a few hours, you find yourself touching your T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and noticing that your face is already greasy. Skin care treatments will also not work for you as well. At the front of the mirror, you see your face is already shiny from the oil. This is worse during a hot or warm, busy day when you do not have the time to powder or use a blotting paper. This is especially noticeable when the person with you, busy as you are, still has fresh, shine-free face.

How many times a day should I wash my face?

This depends on where you’re living or what season of the year it is. If you live in a tropical country, where the hot sun burns brightly during the day, washing your face should be PRN or as needed. The important thing is to keep your face clean but at the same time, not strip the skin of its natural and normal oil.

Clean, clean, clean — Keep that skin clean!

Which cleanser should I use?

Cleansers should be water-based. Oil-based products can worsen oily skin. Below are some of the products marketed today for those with oily skin. They are affordable for a tight budget.

  1. Clean and Clear Facial Wash or Clean and Clear Daily Pore Cleanser, Oil Free
  2. Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser
  3. Cetaphil Cleanser
  4. Celeteque Facial Wash
  5. Pond’s (New Pond’s Pure White Deep Cleansing Brightening Facial Foam)

What are astringents or toners should I use?

This should not be alcohol-based, for it may strip the skin of its natural oil. The reaction of the skin is to produce more oil, thus, worsening your condition.

  1. Clean and Clear Daily Pore Cooling Toner
  2. Celeteque Toner

What are good sunscreen protection/ moisturizer options?

You should pick products that provide you with light, non-greasy formula that also provides SPF protection.

  1. Olay Daily Moisturizing Cream
  2. Oxygenating Ultra Light Moisturizer SPF 15

What are good facial powder choices?

Products best for the skin are minerals, which often are available in loose powder. However, they are more expensive compared to compact facial powder. If you’re on a tight budget, you can get good products that provide you with equal results.

Most beauty products have labels on them to indicate for which skin type they are for. The following are some examples of brands catering to your oily skin needs. Though San-San and Avon do not have labels stating they are for oily skin in particular, I have found through using the products that they are effective in keeping the face free. Though, of course, you’d need to retouch every now and then.

  1. Maybelline
  2. Clean and Clear
  3. San-san
  4. Avon (mineral-based loose powder)

If I’m too busy to retouch, what should I do?

Always have a blotting paper with you all the time. It keeps the face oil free without much hassle and effort. Different department stores offer blotting papers from different brands that range from fifty bucks to a hundred bucks. Choose what suit your needs.
