What is your favourite thing to draw? Do you keep a sketchbook? What do you fill it up with?
My favourite thing to draw is cute faces and bad bitches. i have a few sketchbooks of different sizes that I have on the go at any one time. i’m not very good at the ‘making the sketchbook look nice’ thing, they are mostly just sketches and ideas and they get their pages torn out and stapled back in a lot.
What’s a great comic you’ve read recently?
I recently went to the States and got a copy of Michael DeForge’s First Year Healthy. His artwork is beautiful and the story is really intense and touching, I’d highly recommend it.
What’s the most enjoyable part of the comics making process for you?
I think the best part is when I finish a page and I’m happy with it, the sense of accomplishment is my favourite thing. It reminds me that I can do the thing! My other favourite part is when other people tell me they enjoyed my zine/comic or it has touched them in some way — that’s the ultimate.
Is print dead?
I could either answer this with a 2000 word essay, or just one word. so I’ll go with that: ‘no’.
Do you remember the last cool thing you got in the mail?
I did an interview for a student magazine recently and they sent me a copy in the mail. I love seeing my work in print (or rather, something I haven’t printed myself) — it’s a really special feeling.
