Wacoinda vs. Marvel
Why would a large company like Marvel be concerned with an unrelated Facebook group called Wacoinda? I was shocked to hear that Marvel may challenge the trademark of Wacoinda, based on its similarities to the name Wakanda in the movie, Black Panther. I admit I have struggled with my position on the matter. I asked myself many times, what is the importance of a name? Some have said, “It’s just a name, let Marvel have it”. Other’s say, “It’s our name we must fight for it”. The funny thing is that it was not until I began to write this article that I have really took time to think of what “Wacoinda” really means to me.
My purpose for joining the group was because I wanted to know more about crypto currency and investing. What I have received is a wealth of knowledge that I can use in so many areas of my life. I have gained friends, that have become more like extended family. I have even gained a new courage to step out of my introverted box, at times, and share my heart in unfamiliar territory. What is amazing, is that in less than a year, we have grown into much more than a Facebook group. We learn, laugh, cry, and fight together. Wacoinda is a family and a movement.
Sometimes, it takes a challenge to show you what you are really made of. Wacoinda is made of warriors. Our favorite weapon is love. Black Panther told a story of a fictional place called Wakanda. One day there will be another story that will be told. This story will be the real life story of Wacoinda. A story of a diverse group of people from all over the world, who fought economic oppression and won!
