And you thought smart homes are just for tech-savvy men!

Guys! Lets face it!

We all have to admit it. All the smart home gadgets and toys you have at home or eagerly are saving to buy are exiting. BUT… Try to convince your wife to use the iPhone to turn on the light instead of the switch. Or even explain to her how often she needs to press the switch to set the mood light for the TV session. We have all been there — me certainly excluded. And lets not speak about your kids…

Smart Homes are just for tech-savvy men, Right?

So! Why not start early in the education process! That’s at least what Mattel — the famous creator of Barbie dolls thought — besides the fact that Kids love Barbie products.

Earlier this year they unveiled at the 2016 International Toy Fair in New York City the SMART Barbie Dollhouse including full smart home capabilities, WIFI and even voice activation. So actually it offers most likely more smart home capability as your own “Smart” home!

Combining Smart Home technology and Speech recognition!

Every kids dream!

The Barbie Dollhouse offers much of the technology we are looking to get from our set-ups. Kids can voice-activate and control the house — much like Siri or Cortana. As the service is cloud-based they are not limited to a few standard phrases but actually interact much more naturally, or crazy kid-like if you will. They can set mood lights for the dinner date of Barbie with Ken or turn the house into a party mood including funky music and disco lights.

You can see that Kids will love this!

Not the first “smart” venture of Barbie

The dollhouse will actually follow the introduction of the “Hello Barbie” doll which is also Wifi enabled and offers speech recognition.

“You can take that information and find out a person’s house or business. It’s just a matter of time until we are able to replace their servers with ours and have her say anything we want.” Jakubowski told NBC

However the success was quickly tainted by US security researcher Matt Jakubowski who discovered that when connected to Wi-Fi the doll was vulnerable to hacking, allowing him easy access to the doll’s system information, account information, stored audio files and direct access to the microphone.
Not such a nice idea that hackers can actually listen and talk to your dearest. But hey, you use Amazon echo at home, right?… :-)
