It’s too bad that no one seems to be interested in the faction of the population that won the nomination for Trump. I don’t call myself a Trump supporter, nor do I think he’s going to win, but I was amazed and inspired by/in our political system and it’s ability to toss out the status quo and reinvent itself…much to the chagrin of lifetime politicians. The “people” had spoken, and it was a sight to behold.
But just who are those people? No one seems to care, including the author. He talks about Trump like he bought the nomination at Walmart. He had the most toys and so he won the prize. He tricked us somehow. But in actual fact he won the nomination by a popular vote. It wasn’t the pundits that did that for him, nor the party (can’t exactly say that about Clinton can you?).
Apparently there are a lot of deeply hurting people in this country, who are watching their economy and their lives turn to shit. They don’t live in Silicon Valley, New York, or DC. They are Americas “white trash” and so they deserve to be forgotten…right? They are the collective “red haired step child” we keep in the basement whilst we celebrate our diversity, inclusiveness, and new ways to combat climate control.
I admit to having no small amount of trepidation in a Trump presidency. He is a bonafide asshole. But I’ve been a New Yorker all my life, and Trump has always been in the papers being that asshole. Notwithstanding he has never done anything but make buildings… and some of them are pretty awesome. I know many a yuppie/hipster who pay their rent to the Don… and they pay it gladly.
Personally I would love to see Trump win.. just to watch everyone lose their shit...to not only upset the apple cart, but to blow it’s fucking wheels off. Our political system is rotten to the core and these bad apples need to go. My hope is that this event will embolden a new generation of public servants, who after gaining success, stature, wisdom, earn the right to serve our country. That’s the way it was back in the 1700 and that’s the way it should be.
