There is nothing wrong with being autistic. People will label us regardless of whether we have a label and they will give us a new label that is worse. There is no mild side of autism. It is a dynamic condition and even if you do not see the struggles, they are there. One doesn't have to tell people if they don't want to do so but studies have shown that if people know someone is autistic when they meet them, then they often feel less threatened by our presence. Our mannerisms and rate of speech seem to unnerve people. Encouraging us to hide our traits leads to mental illness and suicide. Autism has a 94 percent inheritability rate so one or both of you, the parents, is highly likely to also be autistic and have masked your whole lives. I urge you to challenge your ableism and question why a label bothers you so much
