Human Interactions Design
Hello Hello Hello!
Have you believed in love @ 1st sight? in childhood? In movies at-least they had this concept of freezing the frame, playing that background music. But overtime while growing and being a part of these moments, we now have a tendency to talk, observe certain aspects, might be spontaneous but yeah basically multiple interactions to like a person.
Similar flow can be observed across many other horizontals and verticals of life.
A story which would maybe explain this, here goes :-

Imagine you are in a village, and there is a group of 6 visually impaired individuals. They hear a news about an elephant in the village. They have never seen an elephant and aren’t able to visualise or frame a picture in mind.
Curious to explore the animal they plan to visit the elephant in the zoo.
In the zoo now, yayyy!!
Now these 6 folks gather around to figure out how the elephant looks like & these are the comments they have.
Everyone in this cool looking gang has a different perception owing to the different parts of the figure they are exposed to.
It’s 6pm the snacks counters are closed and all the folks exploring the zoo tirelessly head home. Our gang is back home too with a sense of how they think elephant is and discuss the same over a round table.
This is what their current state is :-
Person who touched the tail says he is thin and slim.
Person who touched the stomach says he is huge like a whale.
Person who touched the trunk says he is curvy and flexible.
Person who touched the legs said he is like a cylindrical pillar.
No consensus → chaos
Hearing their rants in the ongoing debate, a Mr. Visually Capable(VC) shows up!!
He tells them
“All of you are correct. Wait lemme complete. All of you are correct partially, the person who said the elephant is huge touched the stomach of the elephant. The person who said is thin touched the tail of his….& the person who described him as a cylindrical pillar touched his legs….and so on”
As usual Mr. VC did his job and solved the problem.
Now our gang was able to visualise the elephant properly as they painted the figure of the animal in their mind.
Now each one of those in our gang of visually impaired knew the complete truth of how elephant looks visually.
What happens when you know the complete truth……
You scale things
Now they can probably imagine the elephant doing various things and come up with possible use-cases of putting Mr.Elephant to work.
So what I essentially wanted to convey is every interaction conveys a message, a group of interactions paint the whole picture, so when we design we should design a group of interactions also called as experience.
When using tools like Photoshop, this theory resonates.
Take the image below, user is overwhelmed when he sees so many widgets and panes open. But once you know all the functionality of the UI elements you can scale and edit photos easily.

This theory is explained in Jainism as :-
Now that you know we have to design a group of interactions and create an experience, some food for thought,
“When the world is moving towards 3d, AR,VR and such immersive experiences, is it for coolness or for fun ”
One way to look at this would be :-
Adding one more dimension is equivalent to exposing the viewer to one more interaction. So instead of 2 dimensions conveying 2 sets messages, we now have one more dimension exposing depth here. So more the interactions faster the learning curve.
The time taken to paint the complete elephant will now be lesser. Huh !! Scaling faster.
Moreover we are living in an experience economy.
Earlier we used to get coffee beans home, brew, pour milk & make coffee.
Then we started getting ready-made coffee powder, marking the transition to goods economy.
Then we started had Chai stalls and points readily available in the market serving hot brewed beverages, marking the transition to service economy.
Now we have Cafes staging experiences, which means we are thriving in the experience economy.
So back to where I started, when you design a dashboard, flag your deliverables as complete, make sure it is not just a single give and take interaction of sorts, see that all the possible interactions are utilised to drive your wanted outcome.
Wishing you have good life experiences ahead. Sayonara!!
