What comes first, soup salad or appetizer?

Generally, salad and/or soup is served first, followed by the appetizer, an entree(Main course), and then a dessert course for formal meals in America.

But in India, for our formal dinners, appetizers are served first by the chef, followed by soups and salads. For example:-

1. Paneer Tikka and Dry machurian(starters).
2. Tomato soup and masala papad(salad).

3. Dal tadka,kaju curry, veg kolhapuri, and Butter naan(Main course).

4. Kesar-pista ice cream(dessert).
