What not to eat during pregnancy? The Must-Not!

Some varieties of seafood: Avoid large fishes like king mackerel, swordfish, shark and tilefish because they contain a lot of methyl mercury. Instead go for smaller fishes like salmon, shrimp, prawns, sardines etc. Also avoid shellfish like oysters, mussels and clams when you are expecting.

Excessive amounts of coffee and certain herbal teas: can act like a diuretic which increases the frequency of urination which is already on the higher side.

Avoid alcohol: Alcohol is a strict no-no during pregnancy because it can affect the child and its growth and development.

Nitrate-rich foods: Avoid processed foods like sausages, bacons, diet-sodas, saccharin that contains preservatives like nitrates which are harmful for the baby’s development.

Fruits like Papaya, raw mango, pineapple: contain certain ingredients that may create disturbances in your body while you are expecting.

Nuts: that can cause allergy like peanuts, cashews, pistachios, hazelnuts etc should be avoided.

While these are some foods that are best avoided during pregnancy, you should also be very careful about how you eat the food, and where you eat. Proper washing and cooking should be undertaken before you consume any food. Avoid sugar-rich, fatty, fried and spicy food. Never take anything that is old, insist on them being fresh. These small precautions can help you avoid a lot of problems during pregnancy.
