Parliamentarians vow to Replicate Thar’s Inclusive Development Model
Hyderabad (Saturday, November 2, 2019) Senior parliamentarians delegations headed by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed on Saturday urged all CPEC and other mega development projects to replicate Thar’s inclusive development model being executed under a Public Partnership regime of Engro Corporation and Government of Sindh.
The delegation headed by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed was speaking to a group of media during a day long visit to Thar Coal Block II mining, power and Thar Foundation projects. The delegation was inclusive of Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak, Senator Dr. Sikandar Mendhro, Senator Lt. Gen. R. Abdul Qayum Khan, Senator Rukhsana Zubairi, Senator Krishan Kolhi, MNA Dr. Sherza Mansab Kharal and Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Human Rights, Veerji Kolhi and senior journalists Ayaz Gul, Mehrab Haider, Behzad Saleemi, Tanveer Hashmi and others.
The delegation was briefed by Chief Executive Officer of Engro Energy Limited, Ahsan Zafar Syed and Sindh Engro Coal Mining and Thar Foundation CEO, Syed Abul Fazal Rizvi. The delegation was told that the mining progress has achieved 180 meters and its producing 12000 tons of coal per day, while power plant is generating 660MWs of electricity as per the indent.
Senator Mushahid Hussain who also heads Pak-China Institute, a think tank on Pak-China relations, said that Thar’s development model should be replicated across CPEC projects being implemented in Pakistan.
He said his forum will surely advocate and take up Thar’s inclusive development model to replicate across CPEC and other mega development projects of Pakistan.
Responding to a question, he said the CPEC’s Thar Coal Block II projects has delivered and successfully executing the best inclusive development model through a public partnership regime.
“The Government of Sindh and Engro Corporation has set a new trend of development in country, which should be advocated across Pakistan which is changing lives of the local people,” he added.
Senator Krishan Kolhi who belongs to Thar said that the inclusive development model of Thar will change Pakistan after changing the lives of the locals. She said, the women empowerment programs introduced by Thar Foundation also unmatched, which is bringing revolution in the area.
Senator Numan Wazir Khattak said Thar Coal Block II is myth breaker project which made a wrong perception in the past that the quality of the coal will not be able to generate desired energy. “Generation of 660MWs of first plant has broken all the myths and now Thar is becoming the Energy capital of Pakistan,” he added.
Senator Dr. Sikandar Mendhro said, Thar Coal Projects is a dream coming true and it has a promising future not only for the development of Thar but whole Pakistan will take benefit from it.
