How an LMS works to enhance On-The-Job training

By now, corporations have realized the essentiality of incorporating the training of the very first order, within their priorities. While corporate training is being carried out for decades, the industry of learning and development sees changes and advancements on a regular basis- with the advent of the learning management systems being amongst the ground-breaking ones. These days, training can be divided into several categories, methods, etc., with On-The-Job training being one of them.

As is evident from the name, this form of training is normally delivered while the employee is carrying out their normal work routine. In most forms of corporate training, employees are allocated a specific time- apart from their job responsibilities to complete their training. The same strategy doesn’t apply to on-the-job training. In this form, employees are given information whenever the need arises. Several methods of implementing this form of training have emerged. This includes assigning a mentor to every employee, ensuring your managers have the training required to meet answer employee questions and ask employees to shadow their seniors from time to time. Obviously, since the LMS has become so popular, it is only fitting to use it for on-the-job training. Here’s why that is possible:

Easily accessible

When choosing a training software for your company, one of the main features which you must keep an eye out for is if it is mobile responsive or not. Obviously, accessing the information on our mobile phones is significantly easier in comparison to getting it from other sources which aren’t as portable or instantaneous. Fortunately, most high-quality LMS are mobile responsive, which allows employees to access the system for a training course or some information whenever the need arises.

Your employee could be facing a dilemma or needing a refresher on a certain skill. By pulling out their mobiles and accessing the LMS, they can do so without any delay.

Adding useful information

Normally, a learning management system is used to deliver and undertake training courses- which might take a significant time to get through, making it difficult for employees to use them for on-the-job training. However, microlearning is a mode of training where trainers create short courses lasting for 10–15 minutes- packed with the required information. Furthermore, managers can also put up videos or other sources of useful information apart from the training courses which are already up on the system.

Through this, when employees need to go through information but are pressed away, they can use these other sources of information instead of taking a full training course.

Minimal resources needed

Another reason why an LMS can enhance on-the-job training is that it doesn’t require major resources to be used to impart information to employees. A significant financial input doesn’t have to be made, and other methods such as shadowing or mentoring which are relatively slower modes of learning don’t need to be used as much.

For training to be truly effective, the pros and cons of investing in it always must be weighed up carefully. Fortunately, through an LMS on-the-job training can be conducted without much hesitation.
