How much do any of you (author and commentators) know anything about football. Kape is a gifted athlete with a fairly limited skill set as a QB. You can build a system around those strengths and get solid results like they did in SF at the start. However if you aren’t running a similar scheme he will not likely do nearly as well in it.
A team can’t run a totally different offense for their backup QB. They need a guy that can step right in and play the same way as the stater, all be it generally at a far lower level.
In this case Colin is like Bizzaro Flacco. Those guys could not be much more different in skills and style. Unlikely Kape would thrive in that system. He MAY have done okay if he got a start or 2 to open the season since they would tailor those games to the plays that he would do best, but in the future if he had to come in for a couple series in Flacco got banged up it would not be a great fit.
If you want to throw shade at any team that was looking at him look at the Seahawks. While maybe not 100% perfect for him the way they utilize the physical skills of Russel Wilson would translate MUCH better to what Kape can bring to the table. Wilson is a far better passer but does also is very agile and mobile and will make plays with his athleticism, and that is at least partially by design.
Now there are a lot of people that are saying that money is a big factor, as in he is looking for decent money and isn’t going to consider a veteran minimum deal which the “scrubs” that are getting signed are getting paid. So even for the Hawks, who are one of the few teams that somewhat fit his skill set, they might not wanted to use that much money on a back up QB when they had cheaper options and frankly given Wilson is pretty healthy isn’t the best use of salary cap space.
Kape isn’t good enough to be worth the distraction and media circus that will follow him. If he was Cam Newton and did the same stuff he would have a job.
