Visions of the turquoise blue sky complemented with lush greenery drift through my mind, as I sit dreaming far away from the enchanting locales of Coorg. I can almost smell the aroma of the delicious coffee from my grandmother’s kitchen, only to realise that I’m stuck in the traffic,amidst the backdrop of a hugely crowded and noisy city.

Coorg, a district located in the Western ghats of Southwestern Karnataka, India is a poet’s paradise and a must-visit place on every tourist’s map. Famously described as the Scotland of India, a single visit to this land of the Kodavas will make you experience the magic of heaven on Earth. The bumbling of bees, the buzzing of crickets and the song of the the cuckoo drives a nature lover to a state of ecstasy.

With places like the Namdroling Monastery in Bailakuppe, Irrupu falls, Nisargadhama, the Nalknad Palace and Abbey falls as major tourist attractions, Coorg is truly a magical haven. A district resplendent in culture and popular for its coffee and pepper plantations, it brings one closer to nature. Coorgs are considered unique for their dressing style, unusual and delicious cuisine and their way of celebration of traditional festivals like Kailpodu and Putthari.

A rainy day in Coorg adds to its mystic aura with the dark grey skies, pearl-white raindrops and mirror-like water puddles. The vast display of nature’s glory can be seen in the form of beautiful coffee and pepper estates. The fragrance of the coffee blossoms can’t be described, only experienced.

Marriages in Coorg are considered to be elaborate and exquisite affairs, beautiful celebrations with a special set of customs and large gatherings. Moreover, there is the annual Hockey festival held between different families, hockey being a traditional sport that is especially worshipped by Coorgs!
