RETHINK YOUR DRINK!

So today is a very exciting day because I will be posting the first in a series of recipes for delicious, healthy and refreshing beverages. S.N.A.C is launching their 2016 Rethink Your Drink campaign next week and we could not be more excited! This campaign asks us to take a second look at the drinks we are consuming and make a healthy choice!

While we tend to think of food as being the most important fuel our body takes in, drinks can be just as important. Depending on how much you are consuming, soft drinks and juice beverages can provide your body with as many calories as a small healthy meal or snack does. And these aren’t the kinds of calories you want! These calories don’t contain any of the vitamins or nutrients your body craves :( They are the kind of calories that make your tummy feel bad and cause your body to create fat so it is best to leave these high calorie drinks behind!

A quick tip: Instead of drinking a 16 ounce glass of coca-cola (which contains 187 calories) you could have two rice cakes with a tablespoon of peanut butter and half a banana (which contains 200 calories)! This snack is super simple, super delicious and most importantly, nutritious! With this snack all you need is a glass of water! :)

Aside from calories, soft drinks and juice beverages also contain a lot of sugar! Sugar is bad for you in a lot of ways; it is hard on your stomach, it is bad for your skin (if you get frequent breakouts try staying away from sugar!), it is bad for your teeth (sugar creates plaque and causes cavities) and it also leads your body to create fat. Sugar is very delicious but like everything in life it is important to use moderation! Next time you reach for a can of soda take a second look at the sugar content! :)

So now that I have given you a lengthy lecture, let’s learn about a fun way to stay hydrated and healthy :)

❤ FRUIT/ HERB INFUSED WATER ❤ (…yum)

Here are a couple of fun recipes for fruit infused water that look pretty and taste just as good as they look! Fruit infused water is great because you get all the important hydration offered by water, a delicious flavor and no calories or sugar!

Strawberry, Lime, Mint and Cucumber water! (must be consumed while lounging under a cabana…❤)

Recipe:

  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup sliced cucumbers
  • 2 limes, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • Ice cubes
  • Water

Throw this mixture in the biggest jug you have and let chill in the fridge for 10 minutes before enjoying! (If you don’t have all the ingredients don’t worry! (Even one of these yummy ingredients can turn your water into a treat)

Detox Water

Recipe:

  • 2–3 liters water
  • 2 large oranges, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • ½ large cucumber, sliced
  • 1 handful of fresh mint

This is very refreshing and perfect with a tasty salad or simple soup!
