Yummy Yogurt Parfait

If you are anything like me than you have a major sweet tooth. Unfortunately sweet and healthy don’t always go together but in this case they do! :) This post is going to teach you how to make a delicious yogurt parfait that is not only healthy, but absolutely delicious!

So let’s start out by talking about yogurt. Yogurt contains probiotics (which are great for your digestive track) and protein (which is perfect for building strong muscles) however, not all yogurts are equal. Some yogurt contains a lot of additives, high fructose corn syrup and other stuff that isn’t amazing for our bodies. It is important to read the label and make sure you get a yogurt that not only tastes great, but makes you feel great too! I personally like to go with the vanilla greek yogurt available at Trader Joes but you should choose your favorite :)

**Just a tip, if you want to add lots of yummy toppings sometimes going with a simple plain or vanilla yogurt can be the perfect base!**

So once you have chosen your favorite yogurt it is time to choose the toppings! I like to put fruit in my parfait because it is not only delicious but nutritious! I like to buy frozen fruit because you don’t have to worry about it going bad and that way you can make lots of yogurt parfaits without having to make a second trip to the store! Plus the frozen fruit keeps your yogurt cold which makes it extra delicious in my opinion. I personally love frozen blueberries and bananas! Blueberries have lots of Vitamin C while bananas are high in potassium! Orange slices would be great too!

So now that we have the fruit and the yogurt down lets move on to the crunchy stuff! So a lot of people put granola in their parfaits which is very yummy but unfortunately not so healthy :( Granola tends to be very high in sugar and calories so I think it is best to replace it with a healthy breakfast cereal like Grapenuts or a bran flake cereal. Cereal adds the crunch everyone loves without all the other stuff you don’t want! Plus, cereals like Grapenuts contain lots of other nutrients like fiber that are great for keeping your body happy and healthy:)

Now there are lots of other great toppings I love to add depending on what I have around the house! Some suggestions include: crushed nuts, shaved coconut, chia seeds or flax seeds.

So there you go! A delicious dessert that keeps your tastebuds happy as well as your body! This recipe contains lots of stuff to keep you healthy during flu season like Vitamin C and protein. Plus the probiotics will help your digestion!
