10 Nail Care Tips To Follow If You Take Your Nails Seriously

We’re women, we love our nails and we take ’em seriously.

Umm…Why? Let’s see!

  • Our nails bring in the much-needed grace to our hands.
  • They’re like innocent looking weapons that work like magic.
  • They’re wonderful jar openers for jammed lids.
  • They make us feel pretty.
  • They’re efficient scratch mechanisms.
  • Popularly known as ‘clawing’ or ‘digging’, nails are wonderful start/stop signals to our boyfriends.

“For example: You’re on a double date with another couple when your boyfriend starts ranting about how much time you take to get ready. One second of subtle clawing and your boyfriend automatically starts talking about how it’s all worth his wait because you end up looking amazing each time.”

Sorry we digressed a little. Moving on.

Yes, we do all sorts of fancy things like nail art, nail tattoo’s, nail piercings etc. to our nails. Hence, there’s a high need to maintain our nails via mindful nail care.

Here are some easy ways in which you can ensure healthy yet pretty nails.

1. HYDRATE:

While using moisturizers on your hands, rub the lotion onto your fingernails and cuticles too. You can also use essential oils to do the same. This helps maintain moisture and prevents the cracking of cuticles.

2. EAT RIGHT:

If your nails break easily they’re brittle. Intake of biotin supplements and a high protein, high iron diet may be the solution.

3. NO MORE BITING:

Biting nails or picking on cuticles can disrupt the nail bed making it prone to uneven growth and infections. Tip: If you’re the kinds who absent-mindedly bites their nails here’s what you can do. Apply an edible, bitter lotion/ointment that reminds you not to bite your nails every time you put them to your mouth.

4. REGULAR MANICURE:

Ensure you get a manicure done at periodic intervals. To get a manicure done at home, click here.

5. NAIL HARDENER:

Apply transparent nail paint over regular polish. This acts as a nail hardener, ensuring they don’t break off easily.

6. MILD NAIL PRODUCTS:

Restrict the use of harsh nail products such as nail polish removers, they make the skin around your fingernails dry. If at all, opt for acetone-free formulas.

7. MINDFUL NAIL REMOVAL:

At the onset of a hangnail that’s painful, do not pull it off. Chances are that you may pull off live tissue along with the nail. Instead, gently clip off the hangnail using a nail-cutter or sharp nail clipper.

8. BYE-BYE NAIL STAINS:

Nail stains? Dip your hands in a mixture of lukewarm water and freshly squeezed lemon. Wash with regular water, dry clean and apply moisturizer.

9. SAY NO TO SCRAPING:

Resist the temptation to scrape off leftover polish from your nails. Let it either come off organically or use mild nail removers to do so.

10. CLEANER NAILS:

Lastly, Long nails are home to several germs, dirt and grime. To ensure healthy nails make sure you clean the insides of your nails, daily.
