Shimla, the Heart of Himachal Pradesh, summer capital and most planned city of British India. When most of the travellers prefer Kullu – Manali, I though of checking out Shimla. May be because everyone said that there is nothing to explore and I always wanted to try out something new.

Theog – Town of 5 Ghats

You can see a breath taking view of a small town embraced by five Ghats – Theog, which is 32 km away from Shimla. It was a long shot for me since I had less time, but still I try to visit and explore Theog, a Himalayan Hamlet. An uncrowded place where you will get everything like any other hills station.

Fagu

As a naturist, I loved fagu since it reveals the true beauty of Shimla’s countryside which is 22km away from Shimla. A mesmerising Village where photographers and trekkers love to stay back. The scenic view of green fields and Himalayan ranges covered by snow is a amazing view.

Kufri

Kufri is famous for its Zoo and water catchment area, both supports wildlife. The main attraction of Kufri Zoo is its Brown Bear and Vultures. It has a long list of animals and birds which was new to me. Water Catchment area is a reserved forest where you can trek and explore the beauty of Wildlife along with diverse flora and fauna. It’s a 14 km trekking through the dense forest along with a guide, which took nearly 2 hours to complete.

Mashobra

Famous for its pine forest and oak trees, you can also find mist bathed hills through out your journey. Mashobra is best for camping and a better way to disconnect from technology and connect to nature, as it is know as the Quieter Shimla. Backpackers will love Mashobra since you can trek through National park. Want to fly there are options for Paragliding through small cliffs and foggy hills.

Green Valley

A place where you can find only Green colour. Green Valley got its name from the thick dense Pine forest like a painting. Green Valley always remind me the amazon forest ranges showed in Hollywood movies, which is the most photographed sites in Shimla. You can see a close view of Pine forest through Binoculars established on road sides.

Jakhu Temple

Personally, Jakhu Temple was the best spot for me since I could see the entire Shimla town from the top of the Temple. Famous for its Hanuman Statue which is 108 ft height at an altitude of 8100 feet is a wonderful statue. Jakhu Temple is well connected with a rope way, which cost 500 Rupees for a 10 min ride which has a huge monkey population.

Chadwick Falls

A hidden waterfall of Shimla, A perfect place for trekking and chill out for a while. You have to trek 1km through the dense forest which is little risky since there are chances for landslides at any time. Still it worth taking that risk since the waterfall view is amazing.

Advanced Studies

IIAS a research Institute for Social Studies, Economics and Humanities is renamed as Rashtrapati Niwas, and was used as a summer house for President of India. Located in one of the 7 hills of Shimla, IIAS was build in 1888 and is the first building in India which had electricity. The main attraction of this building is its roofs which has wax tipped water ducts as a firefighting mechanism.

Shimla – a place where you can enjoy a peaceful weekend with family or alone. Shimla fulfils the requirement of all kind of travellers with a variety of options like

  • Trekking
  • Paragliding
  • River Rafting
  • Zoo / National Park visit
  • Bird watching
  • Horse riding
  • Bike riding
  • Cycling through reserved forest
  • Camping
  • Full day Heritage walk
  • Yak riding
  • Ice skating
  • Shopping
