How to Be Smarter Than People Smarter Than You

A few weeks ago at a weekly company meeting, the president of our company asked everyone what they were reading (he claimed he was asking for suggestions, but I’m pretty sure he was nudging us to read if we weren’t already). The people who weren’t reading — our intern, a recent grad, and the partner who believes we should stop hiring people without college degrees.
Most of what I learned in life, I learned from a book. Hiring only those who’ve graduated assumes they learned something there when chances are they haven’t. If hiring were up to me, it’d be based on your answers to questions about books.
