“Pehle mujhe mere dost moti bolte the” and NOW…

Nothing has changed, they still call me Fat!

I don’t have much to boast about but reducing 7 Kgs in 1.5 months is a great deal for someone whose sole reason for existence is feeding on good food.

Unlike some lucky bunch of people, I tend to put on weight if I gorge on Junk. So how did I manage to convince myself to take up weight loss regime?

1) My parents were almost on the verge of disowning me.

2) 70 % of my wardrobe was unutilized (Not that I utilize it now)

3) Not even a single good picture at my cousin’s wedding

4) Health going for a toss

While I was enjoying my stint at home (internship period), it dawned upon me that I need to stay fit and look better. Finally, I challenged myself and consulted a nutritionist who monitored my weight over a period of 7 weeks.

15 July 2016–60 kgs

15 March 2017- 68.1 Kgs

25 May 2017- 61.5 Kgs

The weight loss regime comprised of stringent diet control, which does not imply that you are made to starve rather you are made to eat in right quantities at the right time.

The science of weight loss is simple; we need to create a calorie deficit.

1) Give up on Junk completely:

This one is self-explanatory. This was the biggest challenge for me because while my co-intern or other colleagues were enjoying Chana bhatura, I was made to eat quinoa salad. This almost broke my heart BUT I was determined not to jinx my routine because I was paying for it. Secondly, my parents lured me into monetary benefits for reducing weight. I used to dream about good food (Not joking). I never gave in to those cravings and instead zomatoed to tame my hunger and plan for weekends which were supposed to cheat be days(Might not be the best option for all).

2) The only caffeine you can afford is green tea:

Green tea boosts metabolism and is good for people who wish to lose weight. Drinking only green tea will not help reducing weight. It needs to be backed up by healthy eating habits too.

3) Sweat it out:

Working out for an hour a day will help you stay in shape and further add to the calorie deficit. The benefits of working out are known to all.

4) Drink a lot of water:

Water is required to flush out the toxins and extra fat in your body. 3 Litres a day is what I was told but could only manage to drink around 2.5 Litres. Instead of drinking fresh fruit juice, you can enjoy coconut water as it contains fewer calories and the benefits offered are unparalleled.

5) Cheat days:

Now these are the best kind of days when you can eat whatever you want BUT sadly it comes with a price. If you cheat during lunch, your dinner should be salt free. In case you move out for dinner, the salt free diet has to be followed on the next day.

6) Tips to stay motivated:

This could be the toughest thing to do. I deliberately conveyed my weight loss goals to my friends who are my biggest critique. I would always imagine them making fun of me if I failed to lose weight. Keep trying your old clothes and when they start fitting you again *Happy Dance*.

These are my tips and tricks for staying fit!

If I missed out on something important, please feel free to add to it and also share your weight loss experience.

P.S. — Posting ‘Before’ and ‘After’ pictures won’t be a good motivational tool and hence skipping that part.
