Chef Curry and the Inevitable Date Night!!

The most recent Geico advertisemet shows a couple fighting over directions and the tagline states, “ If you are a couple, you fight over directions, thats what you do.” There couldn’t have been a more apt description in a more humorous way. Well, that’s not the only thing that couples love to lock horns over. Watching a sports broadcast is akin to a crime if I may say so and all hell breaks loose if it falls on a special day or a weekend where you had something else planned. This is a story that unfolds in every household, albeit in varying degrees, sometimes its as trivial as a childlike fight.

Does every household paint a similar picture? Of course, not. We women love sports, maybe a lesser degree for some but we do. I have seen most in my circle are crazy about American football: It’s still amusing to me why it’s called that;if you know what I mean. And how on earth are the winners of Super Bowl World Champions. Don’t get me wrong, I just haven’t been able to warm up to the game. I guess the spectacle of a glittering finale, the excitement, the adrealine rush is what draws most people to it. Unlike basketball it is only a one game final.

The equation becomes an ecclectic mix when both you and your partner share a huge interest in the same game. Back in the day the first sportsman I ever liked was David Beckham, less because I understood his game and more because of his looks and watched a little bit of cricket which again wasn’t so much for the technicalities but the excitement. My brother watched all five days of test cricket with as much interest. I wonder if he and his wife will ever watch a test match together! I have taken a deep interest in the NBA in the last one year.

I track every game, religiously follow the home team’s social media pages, I have my favourite players and I even have my favourite celebration style; yes that’s how closely I have been watching the game. Is my husband complaining? Of course not! Game nights are fun, escpecially if warriors is your home team and the human torch( Stephen Curry) as he is called your favorite player. He is a spectacle on court, even his bad days are a treat to watch. We haven’t missed a game this season. ( On Tv . What did you think;) The team has more than one player who can explode anytime.

These are our best nights. Prepping good food ahead of the game, the discussions during the game, sharing trivia about players, betting who knows more ; yes sometimes I am foolish enough to bet on that and just watching the spectacle unfold. We’ve watched movies together, tv series, and it’s fun but nothing like watching a game. Is it like this for all things ? Oh no! I love to read, he doesn’t! He loves formula one, I don’t!! But we have hit a jackpot on this one!!

With Curry on the recipe, it’s bound to be exciting. Find your passion, your likeness for a similar extravaganza and watch the fun unfold. By the way, warriors have had the best start in NBA history ever after 52 games.
