BACKGROUND

The generation we live in now is some what accepting of Transgender, but there are still problems in coming across the topic “Transgender.” United States is a diverse country so regardless if you were straight, lesbian, gay, transgender, or bisexual we are all human beings and we believe that is it right to have the freedom to express our own gender. But this topic interest the people in the United States as well as myself, due to the opinion on which bathroom and gender identifying activities transgender should be choosing.

THE TWO CONTROVERSIES

The topic on issues on the case of transgender always has two perspectives. One, where people are willing to accept the transitioning of the person or the other where people are against the actions and decisions they make in public.

Recently on The New York Times a Transgender topic was discussed. The article, Trial Over North Carolina Law on Transgender Restroom Access Is Delayed, the author provides evidence that there is a law about the transgender going into public bathrooms but the North Carolina law restricts the access of restrooms to the transgender. But the judge states that, “the plaintiffs had not shown that they were likely to succeed with their claim that H.B 2 also violates constitutional equal protection rights.” As you can see, basically the judge is saying that the H.B 2 doesn’t fully cover the equal rights for the transgender. Which shows that people are not accepting of the transgender. If the whole United States was okay with transgender accessing the bathroom they wish for, there wouldn’t be a debate in which one they should use.

In addition according to the New York Times article, Is God Transgender?, Mark Sameth reveals in the 1970s a transgender went through surgery and got fired from being a music teacher in New Jersey because of her sex change. The Transgender has taken it to court but the Supreme Court refuses to hear the story. It makes sense that the Supreme Court would not take this case up, because this case happened in the 1970’s. The transgender thought it would be different in this time of century but this month a high school transgender student in Virginia could not use the restroom of his choice because the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the lower courts ruling. There are many opinions on this ruling. One side is okay at the fact that transgender using public bathrooms are completely fine on their choice. But the other side is disagreeing to the fact that transgender cannot use the bathroom that they grant because they should be using the bathroom that is written in their birth certificate.

INTEREST

The topic began to interest me when it started being all over the news about transgender and why there is still an issue in regards to what actions they take. It also interests me at the moment because I am surprised that people are still fighting for their rights in their sex identity. The doubts I have about this transgender topic is knowing who is right and who is wrong, because I believe it is an opinion on what people think about transgender and what they do and how they live their lives that affects “straight” people. Considering in exploring this topic will open my views for the future and see other people’s point of view on this subject.
