I posit that if Trump ISN’T impeached, it might be the end of America — or certainly the core of the democracy that all loyal Americans cherish, that is, the guarantee that we ALL are entitled to the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness, and not just straight, white men.

Why do I say that?

Our history is fraught with subjugation of a whole host of human beings, from those perpetrated on the indigenous people that preceded Europeans, to African natives as slaves, to women, homosexuals of all stripes, and so many more. Only in the modern era has there been a sincere (and difficult) fight to equalize this American dream for all, but we are nowhere near the ideal world. It’s a constant struggle and it may take a hundred or more years to achieve it, but at least we WERE moving in the right direction.

In a little over a month, Trump, with the tacit and overt approval of the all-Republican Congress, has rolled back or threatened to roll back so many advances in achieving a more perfect union that it has set back the effort to reach a truly egalitarian society. In my worldview, that would lead to our country’s end, because we cannot and should not go back to the bad old days and to do so would be tantamount to our mutual destruction, if not physically, certainly morally.

Frankly, I’d rather see us risk a forcible removal of Trump rather than see our government co-opted by neo-fascists, but then again, that’s just me.
