Both rivals seem to be interested in Lionel Messi

The fun around Messi’s transfer has already started. So many different reports are trying to suggest where he’s going to end up. A timely update is very necessary on this topic. The Sun reported today that Messi’s father is in Manchester to try and negotiate deals. Even though no photos can confirm this, it must have riled up a lot of football fans.

While an agreement between the buying club and player is important, a deal between the selling club and buying club has not been reached. City and United would be able to get Messi should he exercise the clause in his contract which lets him to leave without any costs at any point between seasons. The hindrance is that the clause specifies dates which respect to the off-season in normal times.

The confusion

But since the entire football calendar has shifted because of the coronavirus break, the dates no longer work with the off-season. If Messi is not able to force his way through, then both the clubs would have to find an agreement with Barcelona for the sale. Barcelona might ask for Messi’s release clause, which is set at 700 million Euros. That’s something no club can realistically afford after the pandemic and due to FFP rules. Although, a third option exists. A negotiated sale might do the trick.

Judging by the looks of it, Messi seems fancier to move to Manchester City. His connections with Pep might work wonders for the Blue of Manchester. But one can’t simply put Manchester United out of the equation. The Red Devils just got rid of Alexis Sanchez and his hefty weekly fees. Further, United might think that only a legend can return them to their glory days, just like another who goes by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi has registered 634 goals and assisted 285 times for Barcelona in all competitions. So Barcelona should let Messi leave without providing any hindrance at all. Further, Famous journalist Veronica Brunati mentioned it on her Twitter account that Messi has already agreed to a deal with Manchester City. With no confirmation yet, this is certainly not gonna be the end to this saga. Messi surely looks to be out of the Camp Nou, but where does he go from here?
