We Didn’t Plan for a Third Passenger
When we first started dreaming about van life, the plan was simple.
- Two people.
- Minimal setup.
- Just enough to escape the daily grind and feel free.
This whole story became the starting point for Developer on Wheels – our tiny brand building useful, family-inspired apps on the road.
But life had other plans.
Right in the middle of buying parts and mapping out adventures, we found out we were expecting a baby. Just like that, our two-person plan turned into a family mission. The van needed a bigger layout, a third seat, more storage, and a whole new level of safety.
The Reality Behind the Dream
At first, I imagined us building side by side – the classic “DIY couple” vibe. But in reality, I spent most days in bed battling constant nausea, while Aurimas worked late into the night after coming home from his full-time job.
It wasn’t easy. But somewhere along the way, we learned something that matters more than tools or time:
There’s never a perfect moment to begin.
You either jump in and figure things out as you go – or you wait forever.
Aurimas chose to jump in.
He pushed through freezing Lithuanian evenings, rain, snow, and exhaustion. Every night he came home shivering and covered in sawdust, but with this calm, steady focus that quietly said: *we’re going to finish this.*
Motivation, we realized, isn’t some magical spark – it’s something you build. One hour at a time.
600 Hours Later…
From September to April, almost every day, he chipped away at the project – transforming an empty cargo van into a cozy, safe, baby-ready home on wheels.
After about 600 hours of work, the van was ready for testing. Our tiny house on wheels was no longer just a dream – it was real. And soon, it would carry three of us into new memories.
What’s Next?
Right now, our van is getting a full safety check before we officially hit the road. We want everything to be just right for our tiniest travel buddy.
We don’t know exactly where we’re heading – but we know we’re ready.
Plans will change.
Life will throw curveballs.
But that doesn’t mean you stop.
You adjust.
You keep going.
And sometimes, the detour becomes the best part of the story.

We’ve got stories, lessons, and hard-earned tips we’d love to share. Drop us a message – we’re happy to talk about insulation struggles, layout regrets, or what it’s like to prep for van life *with a newborn on the way.
Let’s build something real – even when life doesn’t go to plan.
