821 million people go to bed hungry every night….and that needs to change! As a founding team who has been fortunate enough to travel to more than 120 countries and live in over 12, this epidemic is something that we have witnessed first-hand in our time abroad and as such we are determined to play a small part in off-setting it.
We have identified Heifer International as a partner working to address this issue through a variety of means including animal giving to those in need. Giving an animal is like giving someone a small business, providing wool, milk, eggs and more. Animal donations can provide families a hand up, increasing access to medicine, school, food and a sustainable livelihood.
One particular Heifer initiative that we will partner with them on is their “Flock Of Chicks” program which helps provide a family in need with a starter flock of 10 to 50 chicks, along with the training that will empower them to turn our donation into a lifetime of opportunity. Each flock of chicks:
- Provides eggs and protein for nourishment
- Boosts income through sales of extra eggs and offspring
- Ensures security for generations through Passing on the Gift
Chickens require little space and can thrive on readily available scraps; this allows families to make money from the birds without spending much. And since a good hen can lay up to 200 eggs a year, these flock of chickens gift provides a steady source of nutrition and income.
In 2020, we will be pledging the greater of 5% of our net income or 5000 chickens to farmers in need through partnering with Heifer where we hope this gift can do a small part in changing the lives of an entire family and help lift them out of poverty.
