3 quick steps to get your non-tech small business noticed online for free

It's 2014, our phones have internet, our cars have internet, heck even our watches have internet. This is no secret to anyone, the yellow pages annual shipment has consistently gotten smaller and smaller, it's just not a place that most people look to anymore to find a service. If your marketing plan hasn't adapted to online FREE services, then you simply aren't trying hard enough.

Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest. With that in mind we've put together a few simple steps to get started on the path, to help get your business out there into the world and be where your customers are, online.

  1. Setup your Yelp! account

Yelp! is an amazing application, built for all mobile devices and the browser. This is the new Yellow Pages. When you are on Yelp! your customers can recommend you, a service you offer or even talk bad about you. It is a true community based solution that not only helps consumers find what they are looking for, but even helps the business by getting amazing feedback from your customers. In fact with Yelp! you don't even need a company website, It's free and here's how to do it. https://biz.yelp.com/

2. Facebook

Facebook is about as obvious as it gets, you need a Facebook page. This one requires a little more work, in that you need to post things and communicate often, we recommend at least 3 times a day. A great example here is let's say you are a plumber, an independant owner operator. In a handful of words you can easily start the discussion…"Winter is coming, let's make sure your house is ready?" That's it, too easy. But the real secret to winning on Social Media is providing something relevant to the discussion, be part of the discussion, write a story, take a picture, whatever it is just keep doing something. Here's a great tutorial from Hubspot

3. Return

By now, this s going to sound a bit redundant, but this is the department of redundancy department after all. Don't simply register for a Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blog, Pinterest, Yelp! account, in order for it to be effective you need to return. We've found that 3 posts a day to your Social Media sites increases leads by over 60%, and costs you NOTHING!

At Social Pepper we know that building this habit is not easy, they say it takes 21 days for a habit to form. We offer a monthly service to setup all of your social media accounts and post to them regularly, if nothing else this helps get you started, most of our clients are so happy with what we do that they just let us keep managing it for them and focus on what they do best.
