My Take on New Year's Resolutions While Other People Say It’s Just Another Bullshit

Some people say New Year’s resolutions are bullshit because they don’t follow through it or because it can be done any time of the year anyway. But I think that another way to see it is this:

New Years’ at least reminds us to take a moment to look and to reflect in our lives.

New Years’ give us the opportunity to take the moment to set goals for ourselves. New Years’ give us a feeling of refreshment and another chance in life. A precious moment to review and make a change, learn from our mistakes, realize our regrets and push ourselves to keep going.

Days, weeks, months, years… all these are cycles and opportunities to reflect, but do we really have all the time to take and use these opportunities? New Years at least comes once a year — if you take at least that one opportunity, then you’ve given yourself that clarity you need to move forward with a clear perspective.

And what if come New Years’, and you don’t?

You never set it… you never reach it… you never fail. Sounds safe? True. And that’s how you live a mediocre life.

If you’ve been living that life for a while now… I bet you’ve also never been sadder for a while now.

If you’re someone who has secret hopes and dreams in life (which is pretty much every one of us), then you know that deep down, mediocrity is not what you want. And even though living it daily may seem painless, you know it hurts you in the long term.

And that is one of the biggest reason why we can take this rare opportunity to reflect, to at least attempt to control what we can and perhaps let go of what we cannot.

Perhaps taking this once in a year opportunity will lead you to newfound happiness and fulfillment, even little by little about the things you set for yourself, about how you gradually take small but consistent actions towards your hopes and dreams.

And if there’s one thing I wish we would give more of to ourselves, it’s forgiveness — and the chance to do it again.
