“Entrepreneurial Studies”
The world is moving towards entrepreneurialism. Large businesses are adopting the entrepreneurial mindset(Tesla+Alphabet, and the same goes for universities. More and more, schools are adding entrepreneur majors, and increasing resources for aspiring businessmen.
But is this how it should be? Sure, corporations should adopt the entrepreneur mindset- it’ll help business. But, schools? NEVER.
I love entrepreneurism because it takes me out of the classroom. Like Elon, I’m an autodidact, and believe the best way to learn is by doing it yourself. This is the spirit of the entrepreneur: you grind, hustle, network, make moves. You don’t go… “study”.
Recently, I’ve come across a lot of UCLA students who are in the Entrepreneurism Frat Sigma Eta Phi. They study how to pitch, build a company, and calculate a CAC. Great. What are they building though? Nothing!(this is not a joke, their “ventures” page has zero listings).
When asked how they spend their time, most reply: “I’m studying for my frat” or “my classes”.I believe this tarnishes the spirit. It takes away the freedom fighter, contrarian mindset so important to the entrepreneur.
True entrepreneurs take care of their work in the classroom, but focus on their business. On the future. If you want to be an entrepreneur, stop studying, get out of the stands, and jump into the arena.
