Looking for a rice cooker in Malaysia? Or you might be looking for how to use your rice cooker to steam your food in right way! In either way, this article will guide you to choose and use a rice cooker without letting you face any difficulties. You can find many multi-use cookers such as instant Pot that are not only helpful in making rice but the stem and slow cook your food in one appliance. Below are some right ways to steam your food in your rice cooker.

Steam Basket

If you got a steam basket in your rice cooker, this could be pretty handy and convenient to use not only for cooking rice but for other purposes as well. If you lack time and after cooking your rice, there is hardly any time left for cooking other recipes, then the steam basket is quite efficient to steam your nutritious organic vegetable along with your rice without taking any extra time, thus by saving your time and counter space.

If you are not sure your rice cooker can be used as a double steamer, then you can go through the instruction manual to confirm whether it has a separate steam basket with the preset steam setting. Again, depending on your needs, you can go for a larger or smaller volume of the rice cooker.

The food you can steam

Before you steam your vegetables, you need to wash them well and cut them in small or medium pieces so that it won’t take much time to get cooked. Note that if you want to steam vegetables with stiff and thick skin like pumpkin and squash, then you should peel the skin, but if you don’t want to miss any nutrients, then leave it as it is(it might take a bit more time though!).

If you are thinking about whether you can steam your meet, then undoubtedly, you can! But If you want to steam your fish, chicken or meat without compromising the spicy flavor, then you can do that as well. Just marinate your fish or chicken or meat with spices that you use while cooking in general and wrap it in aluminum foil; now put it in and let it steam for some time.

Know the steaming time of your food

You can go through the manual guide to know the steaming time for your rice cooker but, note that it may vary depending on what you want to steam.

For instance, rice takes around 30 to 35 minutes whereas vegetables take less time (around 10 to 15 mins) but it may vary (not much though!) depending on the vegetables. For meat, chicken, and fish, you can consider around 35 to 45 mins but give it a first go to know the exact time it takes.

If you have already bought a Toshiba rice cooker or Tefal rice cooker and have a steam basket with it, then you can as well use it for multiple purposes as mentioned above.
