Before even starting a new thing, maybe a project, a side hustle, or perhaps entering a new phase of life, have you thought that it’s gonna fail?

That’s the negative thinking. If subconsciously we believe that something is not going to work out, it’s going to affect our action and that will ultimately lead to failure.

On the other hand, positive thinking doesn’t mean that you ignore life’s less pleasant situations. Let’s say you failed on a venture. Instead of being frustrated or giving up, instead of thinking you’re a failure & you can’t do this, approach it in a positive way. Look back to figure out what’s gone wrong and what could be done differently. And try again with a different approach. Always expect that the best is going to happen.

But the transformation doesn’t happen automatically. It’s actually our thinking pattern that needs to change. And change is hard and it requires effort. Now, let’s talk about the practical steps to shift your mindset and get a positive perspective.

Awareness is the first step

When solving any kind of problem, being aware of the problem is the first step. We all have self talks in our minds. That is the starting point of a negative mindset. You need to pay attention to those self talks. If it’s negative, you need to consciously avoid that.

Challenge negative thoughts

If any negative thought comes to your mind, question that thought. Ask yourself if they are based on facts or assumptions. Most of the time, negativity starts from irrational beliefs that can be questioned and then go back to those thoughts with a more positive outlook.

Practice gratitude daily

All the things in our life aren’t shit. That applies to even the person with the most negative mindset. Take five or ten minutes every day to reflect on the things you’re thankful for, whether small or big. This simple practice can help shift your focus from what’s lacking in your life to what you appreciate.

Surround yourself with positivity

Spend time with people who inspire you. Positive energy is contagious. Being around optimistic individuals can change your mindset.

“Who you spend time with is who you become! Change your life by consciously choosing to surround yourself with people with higher standards!” — Tony Robbins

Set realistic goals

Break down your bigger goals into small, manageable steps. Celebrate small victories. Setting optimistic goals will give you a sense of accomplishment and progress.

Learn from your failures

Instead of viewing failure as a setback, see it as an opportunity to learn from it. Failure is a natural part of life. Edison made 1,000 failed attempts before inventing the light bulb. With failures, you grow experience. Use those lesions you get from failure so that you don’t do that again.

Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness is the technique of being present at the moment. Sometimes, your mind must wander to the past and remember the mistakes you made before. You need to prevent that. Meditating for ten minutes a day will help. You don’t need candles, a meditation retreat, or a yoga mat to meditate. Just sit somewhere quiet, close your eyes, and ignore every other thought. Take deep breaths and keep your focus on the breathing.

Focus on solutions, not problems

Instead of thinking about your problems, think about how you can solve them. Problem-solving engages your mind in a positive and productive way. It will lead to a more constructive mindset.

Celebrate successes, either big or small

As you’re breaking down your goals into small milestones, there will be success along the way. When you pass a milestone, celebrate it. Acknowledge it as your achievement. Give yourself a small treat.

Engage in activities you love

Spend time doing activities that bring you happiness and fulfillment. It can be a hobby, exercise, or spending time with loved ones. Engaging in activities you love will contribute to a positive mindset by giving you a sense of happiness and satisfaction.

Conclusion

You can’t change your mindset from negative to positive quickly. It’s going to take time. It’s a slow and ongoing process that requires patience and dedication.

You need to remember that small changes add up over time. And with consistent effort, you’ll find yourself approaching life with a sense of positivity.
