Communication is the most vital attribute in becoming a most valuable team player. The chapter ‘The Law of Communication’ explains it in depth. It’s from a great book “The 17 indisputable laws of Teamwork” by John Maxwell. Teamwork is necessary in all the jobs. We may see a wrestler and say that’s not teamwork, he is doing it on his own. But actually, he also has a team that supports him, planned his diet or his workout, motivates him and so many other things, the point is. Teamwork is important. You have to be a good team player to be successful. The question is, how you going to be a valuable team player?

The First thing is communication. Talk to people in your team. Learn about them. share your problem with them. listen to them. In his book, john gave us an assessment through which, one can find out how good he/she is in the field of communication. Most of you will find it difficult to get the book, So I will add the Question here, so you can evaluate where you stand.

Rate your own teamwork abilities by placing the number 1, 2, or 3 next

to each of the following statements:

1 = Never 2 = Sometimes 3 = Always

1. What I say is consistent with what I do.

2. When I give directions or instructions to others there is

rarely confusion or misunderstanding as a result.

3. I enjoy connecting with teammates, and communication

flows freely.

4. I let my leader know about the challenges my team is

facing.

5. When working on a project, I speak up if I see that

something isn’t going to work and suggest an alternative.

6. I show my team leader respect and avoid publicly

criticizing him.

7. Once a problem has been faced, talked about, and

resolved, I do not bring it up again.

8. I am receptive to the needs of our clients. I want to know

how we can improve our service.

9. I respond to client concerns quickly and give an honest

and accurate response.

10. I am loyal to my team even in the face of opposition or

criticism.

I got 26 and that’s really good score because I didn’t know that I am a good communicator. Well, now I know that this is my strong area, so I am going to be consistent and clear to improve it even more because there is always a place for improvement. No one is perfect.

To improve my score I will try my best to leave my comfort zone and participate more in group conversations. There is a great way that I am going to apply and it is to call or meet my friends and just tell them what I like about the and what I don’t. what I can’t understand about them. This will help me to talk with people about something that I am not comfortable in. and because I will try this on my friends, I am sure that they will not mind that. So, its Win Win.

Most of the people think that if they are getting the work done, they don’t have to waste their time in improving communication but that wrong. Good communication can even work when odds are against you. Maybe to motivate your team. The accomplishment of your team and the ability of your team members to work together depend on good communication.
