In Between Floors came together quite organically, with a meeting of musical collaborators old and new. The nucleus of musicians on the album however were three of Steve’s old bandmates, who spent the ’90s playing together in funk-blues-rock outfit Zubaida. Now that the dust has settled, Steve caught up with his oldest collaborators to talk about how working on the project really felt. — SOH: When I first approached you with the idea of making an album, in a poorly disguised ruse to ‘get the band back together’, how did you feel at the time and has it turned out differently than your initial expectations?
