It was pretty clear to me on reading your piece that you don’t quite understand racism. What you described is race-based prejudice (and honestly, if you don’t think Papadum or Osama is racist, you must be hopelessly naive), but not necessarily racism. Here’s the part that is racism: you write about Amy, who should appeal to the powers that be to stop the bullying, but because the system is racist, these authorities will tell Amy to ignore the bullies, or else to take off her headscarf. This systematic oppression is the broader definition of racism.
