Why Ronaldo had to Celebrate his goal

By Soibi Ransom

Cristiano Ronaldo has come under severe criticism for celebrating his goal against Manchester United yesterday in the Champions league. Ronaldo struck his first Champions league goal for his new side Juventus and his first since his April which coincidentally came against his new team. The 33 year old powered a volley from a Leonardo Bonucci's pass from deep midfield to register his account in this season's Champions league edition. Ronaldo was sent off in his first game against Valencia and was goaless against Manchester united at Old Trafford but fired home in the 59th minute from a wonderful long pass by Bonucci and looked in celebration mood after striking rightly with a gesture pointing towards his six packs and this got many talking.

" Bit harsh for Ronaldo to celebrate against his parent club "

" Manchester united fans seeing Cristiano Ronaldo celebrate against them"

Why Did Ronaldo have to celebrate ?

It is the custom of players to avoid celebrations against their former teams especially when they enjoyed a goodwill in those teams however Ronaldo found himself in a different situation having being sent off in the opening fixture of the competition in a harsh way and having not found the net in the competition for over 300 minutes of action. Ronaldo was signed by Juventus in a mouthwatering deal of €100 million euros because of his champions league records with the hope that with him they can claim top spot in this year's edition. Secondly the manner of the goal was too spectacular to be void of celebration and even a Ronaldo who has always spoken fondly of the club could not help but express his joy. Ronaldo may not be totally right to celebrate with such a gesture but he was certainly in a situation where joy had to prevail over sentiments.
