My most recent challenging learning experience — Andela Bootcamp, Day 1
My first day in bootcamp unleashed a new chapter in my life, with a whole day of exciting lectures from the bootcamp facilitators filling our mind with positive frequency, void of all negative thoughts. Today is my first day in Andela bootcamp and its being challenging but driven by a burning desire to learn more.
We were given orientation on what is expected of us, how fast we should unwrap or speed up our learning process and how to handle feedback, be excellent in everything we do, be passion driven, integrity and show co-operation and meaningful relationship with others and also, we must show commitment in everything we do.
After this, we meet out wonderful and awesome Learning facilitator assistants, providing us guidance and feedback on how to improve our project.
Then to our output for the day, the video materials were very resourceful. We were introduced to Growth mindset and Seeking feedback where I learnt the importance of having a growth mindset (having a mind to learn more at any level I attain in life) rather than having a fixed mindset of knowing it all. And I was able to do a general assessment of myself to know if what I have been believing is a fixed or growth mindset. Seeking feedback taught me to always seek feedback and learn to appreciate when I get one be it constructive or otherwise. I also learnt that when I receive feedback, I should have a time of reflection, then look at how the feedback applies to me and propose an actionable plan on improving myself based on the feedback received.
And then, the technical areas where we were taught about programming logic, version control, git and test driven development. In the programming logic, I learnt that understanding programming logic makes learning a new programming language easier. In version control, I learnt what version control is, the different version control tools and how to use git as an example of a version control tool with practical example.
I must confess, it was so rigorous and very intensive with test driven development. It got to a stage my brain could not process information but with the determination of growing my mindset and with the assistance of a team member, Rukayat, I made it to the end of the day.
No doubt the experience so far has been nothing short of awesome. The tasks given are extremely challenging but they are worthwhile. I became rejuvenated and enlightened to know more and more and more at the end of the day.
Thank you Andela Nigeria for this wonderful opportunity and I think indeed, world class developers are birthed through this rigorous process.
