For me if I find myself going down a rabbit hole from what I have been writing — none on medium so far, but soon — I change mediums. Maybe I will paint or draw; sometimes I even try to sing… though that annoys the neighbours.

I find using a medium other than the one I have been immersed in to be therapeutic, it’s just as expressive, if not as good, and it needs no explanation or discussion, it just is.

Something else I have seen work, but haven’t tried personally, is just to scream when it’s all getting to you, putting all that emotion into that scream has worked for the few I have seen do it, though you will want a place where it won’t alarm others if you scream.
