We’ve announced our pilot program. We’re signing on partners. Funding from a major governmental body? Check. The final piece of our master plan: users. And by users we mean passionate fans of our platform and its wares. Customers. Folks to buy — and sell — goods on our peer-to-peer social marketplace.

For the love of horology

As we’ve revealed previously, we’re launching our initial push into the luxury goods sector. Fine watches, to be exact. Now, this is not the only use case for our product; our vision extends to the corners of human commercial activity. The horology sector needs us with a special urgency, however, so we’re making that our beachhead. It’s a thriving community, too: collectors, owners, aficionados, and manufacturers of quality timepieces interact with gusto online. And, until now, they have no single place to unite all their needs.

Firstly, the horology community needs social interaction. They get this on traditional social media platforms, most notably Instagram.

Secondly, they need to buy and sell. They do this across a myriad of platforms including social media sites, big ecommerce, individual websites, and more.

Finally, they need authentication of provenance. As of today, options are limited and cumbersome.

Because SOMA fulfills all these in a single integrated platform, our value proposition is strong indeed.

Overcoming inertia

Still, folks are busy and entrenched in routine; it’s hard to persuade them to sign up for yet another ‘website,’ even if that site is the fulfillment of all their hopes and dreams. That’s why we’re not depending on our superlative benefits to entice them.

Access to exquisite microbrands

Tiny watchmakers, some of them just launching, offer beautiful, sophisticated timepieces — yet they struggle to reach the wider horology community. SOMA offers these companies a global market. At the same time, we bring the hottest watches from around the globe to our users.

Media

After our marketplace launch, a future initiative is that of integrating a robust media platform related to watches and watch manufacturing. We’ll be partnering with respected publications to bring this to our SOMA audience, keeping them in the loop with all things horology-related.

Influencers

We’ll be partnering with prominent collectors, writers, and other big-name horology personalities. These folks will be incentivized to contribute to community growth by spreading the SOMA gospel. (If you’re an influencer, contact partners@soma.co for details).
