The Shattered Coffee Mug

P.S: Replug of a FB post from a while back !

I had a black colored coffee mug made of porcelain that was white on the inside. You could say it was a rather uninteresting monochrome coffee mug that would not distract any passers-by albeit a clear winner in terms of simplicity and humility by design. It was a pretty sturdy mug though and had even withstood a couple of falls from the table over the years. I remember getting it from Clas Ohlson, Reading (UK) approximately some 7 years back and it used to be an integral part of my work desk back then when I was still learning a lot of stuff about tech and more about life every-day. The mug has seen lot of Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate and Green Tea in its life span. Although this is what mugs are supposed to do, this is significant piece of information to me because this mug has helped me think, work, discuss, introspect and connect with my inner self whenever I had a situation to be handled. It gets more significant because this mug occupied an important phase of my life which was seeing multiple changes in a race against time. In 2012 when I had to return to India for good, this mug was one of the first things I had packed. The last 5 years of its lifetime were completely Indian in that it had to lose its nativity (probably Swedish and part British) to enjoy lot of great Madras Filter Coffee and Chai as opposed to the usual flavors it was originally accustomed to. In spite of the change in flavors, my relation with the coffee mug was pretty much same and intact and the mug reciprocated well with my mind whenever in need. This morning, in a shocking turn of events (or) in a rather unexpected manoeuvre that I did, my elbow hit the edge of this mug which was filled with coffee spilling all the coffee on the floor and shattering the mug to several pieces. While they say, it is important not to brood over spilt milk, the image with shattered pieces of the coffee mug did hurt me a bit and hit me strong enough to evoke a special tear. When Facebook asked me what’s on my mind, I had to let this one out and create a post out of it because the now shattered coffee mug deserved to be acknowledged! This is more of a Thank You note to The Mug and to those of you who happened to read until here!
