2022 Tour de France team sponsors — Who are they and what do they do?

I enjoy watching the Tour de France television coverage, but being based in Australia, I am not familiar with most of the team sponsors (listed here). They are generally not well-known businesses or brands in Australia. Here’s some information I found when I tried to learn more about the Tour de France team sponsors.

Of the twenty-two teams, four identify with specific nations (Astana Qazaqstan Team, Bahrain Victorious, Israel-Premier Tech, UAE Team Emirates). Four teams have sponsors from the finance industry (AG2R Citroen, Cofidis, Groupama-FDJ, Arkea-Samsic). Three teams refer to bicycle businesses (BikeExchange-Jayco, Trek-Segafredo, B&B Hotels-KTM). Three mention vehicle brands (AG2R Citroen, Ineos Grenadiers, BikeExchange-Jayco). Home improvements are mentioned twice (Bora-Hansgrohe, QuickStep-AlphaVinyl).

AG2R Citroen Team

• AG2R La Mondiale is a finance firm headquartered in Paris. It provides insurance, financial services and retirement savings services.
• Citroën is a car brand from France. It is part of the same group as Fiat, Chrysler, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Jeep, Maserati, Opel, Vauxhall and many others. The dutch-headquartered Stellantis group is the world’s 5th largest automaker behind Toyota, VW, Hyundai & GM.

Astana Qazaqstan Team

The Astana Qazaqstan Team is named after the nation of Kazakhstan and its capital city Astana (which has since been renamed ‘Nur-Sultan’). The sponsor is the Samruk-Kazyna, a sovereign wealth fund which owns the national rail and postal service, the state oil and gas company, the state uranium company and Air Astana.

Bahrain Victorious

Team Bahrain Victorious is sponsored by the government of Bahrain.

Bora-Hansgrohe

• BORA is a German manufacturer of extractor hoods and cook tops, and steam ovens.
• Hansgrohe manufactures shower heads and taps, and has its headquarters in Germany.

Cofidis

Cofidis is a French company, offering consumer loans, online and over the phone.

EF Education-EasyPost

• EF Education First is a company that offers language training, educational travel, academic degree programs, and cultural exchange. It was founded in Sweden, and is headquartered in Switzerland.
• EasyPost (USA) offers online services for online merchants to manage product shipping.

Groupama-FDJ

• Groupama is an abbreviation for Groupe des Assurances Mutuelles Agricoles (English: Group of Mutual Agricultural Insurances), a French insurance group headquartered in Paris.
• Française des Jeux (FDJ) is the operator of France’s national lottery games.

Ineos Grenadiers

The Ineos Grenadier is a French-manufactured off-road utility vehicle under development and due to start production in July 2022.

Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux

• Intermarché is a French supermarket chain.
• Wanty is a Belgian engineering firm.
• Groupe Gobert Matériaux is a Belgian building materials provider.

Israel-Premier Tech

• The nation of Israel.
• Premier Tech is a Canadian business with interests in horticulture and agriculture, home and garden, systems and automation, water and environment and technology.

Jumbo-Visma

• Jumbo is a supermarket chain in the Netherlands and Belgium.
• Visma provides business software, and is based in Norway.

Lotto Soudal

• Lotto is the Belgian national lottery.
• Soudal is a Belgian manufacturer of sealants and adhesives.

Movistar Team

Movistar is a telecommunications brand offered by Telefónica, the Spanish mobile telephone company. The brand operates in Spain and Hispanic American countries.

QuickStep-AlphaVinyl

• QuickStep is a flooring brand, owned by Mohawk Industries, USA.
• Alpha Vinyl is a flooring product under the QuickStep brand.

BikeExchange-Jayco

• BikeExchange is an international online bicycle marketplace, founded in Australia and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
• Jayco manufactures pop-up camping trailers and motorhomes.

The team has financial backing from Australian businessman Gerry Ryan, who owns Jayco Australia.

Team DSM

Royal DSM (Koninklijke DSM N.V., commonly known as DSM) is a Dutch multinational corporation active in the fields of health, nutrition and materials.

Trek-Segafredo

• Trek is a USA bicycle manufacturer and distributor.
• Segafredo is an Italian coffee brand.

UAE Team Emirates

• The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
• Emirates airline, of the UAE

Alpecin-Fenix

• Alpecin is a German-based shampoo brand. The shampoo formula includes caffeine.
• Fenix is an Italian interior design materials company.

Arkea-Samsic

• Crédit Mutuel Arkéa is a cooperative and collaborative French banking group.
• Samsic is a French business services company, providing facilities management and human resource management services.

B&B Hotels-KTM

• B&B Hotels is an economy hotel chain with properties in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Czech, Belgium, Austria, Poland, and Brazil.
• KTM is an Austrian motorcycle, bicycle and sports car manufacturer.
