On Self Preservation

The world teaches that self preservation is the first rule of nature.

This instruction, if not carefully disciplined, will progressively lead to self-centeredness, selfishness, narcissism, and self destruction.

Frank Herbert, an American writer, observed, “Seek freedom and become captive of your desires. Seek discipline and find your liberty.”

The word discipline is derived from disciple. Jesus taught in the book of Matthew (16:24) that those who want to be his disciples must deny themselves and follow Him.

In this world, self preservation is the priority. In the kingdom of heaven, denial of self in order to bring glory, honor, and praise to God through faith in Jesus is the priority.

God has given you free will. Will you follow Jesus, or will you continue to follow your own selfish agenda?
