guys of the band

Superheaven is a band from Pennsylvania formed in 2008 for Jake Clarke (main vocal and guitar), Joe Kane (Bass), Taylor Madison (main vocal and guitar) and Zack Robbins (second vocal and drums). The band went on hiatus but come back twice and is touring since 2022.

The mainly vocal Jake Clarke, including, has a solo project of indie experimental rock music, besides of his other band: Webbed Wing

Until now, they have been released two great albums: Jar (2013) e and the most famous: Ours Is Chrome (2015)

The first one is more experimental than the second, having the majority of your tracks something like an alternative metal, but also including tracks more different, like Metal in “Outside Of Me”, Shoegaze in “Youngest Daughter” and hardcore in “Knew”.

Meantime, the next release follow a form near of the alternative rock with more metal riffs, besides a slower rhythm and explosive chorus that will make you sing together.

On Wikipedia, Spotify and Last Fm website, the band have a confused classification, called as “Post Grunge” or grunge influenced with shoegaze elements. Although, to be honest, i don’t have any idea about they want to say with that. The band’s sound doesn’t remember in any aspect the Seattle’s band of the movement Grunge and has a different them in your art. They also don’t recall bands like Foo Fighters or similar. So, maybe they only are called this way in response of the alternative sound. Independ of the band’s song, Superheaven has cohesive musics in a same base style. It means that you probably will like all of the songs that they made.

Its notorious an influence of hardcore punk music, mainly in the style that the singers use, but we cant say that Superheaven is a hardcore or a punk band nowadays. Some musics have also some shoegaze elements, like: “All the pain”, “From the Chest Down” or more evident in the greatest song “Youngest Daughter”. That’s not the focus of the sound of the band, but it can explain some labels of shoegaze. The mainly sound is found in dirty riffs that remember metal music with a controlled musical time. In some musics, they are more atmospherics and sometimes a solo guitar appears. The drums are other point of emphasis, but seems that same in some musics.

One of my favorite point of them are the lyrics. All of them are well writing and speak of emotive themes with analogy to talk about suffering, love and bullying. For that reason, some persons also call them as an emo band (but they are not).

Until 2013, the band used the name “Daylight”, when went in a lawsuit cause for the name and lost for other band, changing its names to the actual one.

As “Daylight”, they released two ep’s: “Sinking” (2009) and “The Difference In Good And Bad Dreams” (2013), besides the single “Dispirit” (2013) with three songs.

With this change, not only the name has changed, but also the song. All that I describe above about the riffs, the shoegaze and the specifical vocal only have been incorporated after the name Superheaven. Before of that, the sound was like pure hardcore music with hoarse vocal. The themes of the songs, for lucky, remains.

If like the text and want to know more about those guys, we left here below a spotify’s playlist with some of the best (in our opinion) songs of the band.
