Google Fi is one of the hottest projects for Digital Nomads. Google Fi is a global SIM card that gives you LTE speed in over 200 different countries.

Hey, I am Marcus, the founder of the global DNX movement and I love Google Fi.

Digital Nomads are location independent entrepreneurs, freelancers and employees who work from everywhere.
I am living a fully nomadic life, roaming constantly around the world to different homebases on different continents.
Google Fi is the first global sim card with LTE speed that works in 200+ countries.

Google gives me the ultimate freedom to work and live from everywhere without the hassle of getting a local SIM card every time I enter another country.

This is how Google Fi works

The Google Fi plan automatically works internationally and you pay $20 per month + $10/GB data. If you don’t use it you can set the Fi SIM card to pending.
You only pay what you use. So if you’re under your monthly data allotment, Google credits the money back to your account.

Fi Basics starts at $20 per month + $10 / GB

Traveling with Google Fi
When you travel, your phone will automatically link up with one of Google international partners. All 200+ countries in Project Fi’s network include the same great benefits. Such as high speed data and unlimited SMS.

Project Fi intelligently shifts between multiple networks.
Project Fi automatically connects you to the best available signal, whether that’s Wi-Fi or one of our three 4G LTE partner networks.

Hack: How to register, activate and use Google Fi as a non-US citizen (even in your iPhone)

Google Fi launched in the United States first and is meant for Android phones only.
To register for Google Fi outside the US and use it in my iPhone I had to find a workaround.

  1. Change your IP address via VPN to USA
  2. Change your Google address to a Coworking Space in the US. I used WeWork in Portland > 220 NW 8th Ave, Portland, OR 97209, USA
  3. Get a Vyking Ship address for the shipping of the Fi card and phone for Fi activation
  4. Register for Google Fi (with this link you get $20 Fi credit) and use your Vyking Ship address for shipment. Forward the card via Vyking Ship to where ever you are.
  5. Buy a supported phone (Pixel, the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X or Nexus 6) on Amazon.com and use your Vyking Ship address. Forward the phone via Vyking Ship to where ever you are.
Important: The phone has to be a North American version
  6. Activate your Google Fi in your supported Android phone (Pixel, the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X or Nexus 6). Think about sending the phone back to Amazon.
  7. If you want to use your global Google Fi SIM card in your iPhone go to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Mobile Data Network > set APN to: h2g2

Have fun :)
