She didn’t “forgo the State Department’s information technology infrastructure.” She routinely used the State Department’s closed, separate system — the one specifically set aside for classified information to ensure it didn’t leak into unsecured systems.

The system she chose not to use was the @state.gov system that State Department staffers used for their routine correspondence. Though the kerfuffle is about Clinton having classified information on her private server, no classified information is allowed on the @state.gov system either. And since Clinton received her so-called “classified” emails through @state.gov, criminalizing her for receiving them on her private server — especially when none contained any classified banners — seems absurd.
