What reasonable restrictions can we agree upon for abortion in general, while still protecting the rights of people to make the regrettable decision to terminate a pregnancy?

You mean, terminate another human, right? Pregnancy is a condition of the mother, to be sure, but the primary reason for the majority of abortions is to terminate the baby. The “pregnant” condition is usually secondary, especially for first trimester abortions when we don’t place much of a demand on our mothers.
